Summary
A definitive implant cast should be an accurate representation of the 3-dimensional (3D) position of the implants in the patient’s mouth. When using conventional impression technique, many factors can affect the accuracy of the impression for multiple implants.
The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the linear and angular implant replica position accuracy on complete edentulous maxillary casts either made of dental stone or additive manufactured polymers using a coordinate measuring machine (CMM).
A complete edentulous maxillary cast with 6 implant replicas was prepared. The definitive cast was duplicated using two manufacturing procedures namely conventional (CNV group) and additive manufacturing procedures (AM group).
No significant differences were found between the two groups. Material jetting AM technology demonstrated no significant difference in trueness and precision values of the linear and angular implant replica positions when compared to the conventional technique.
